Suyen Machado
Suyen Machado’s work focuses on developing STEM curricula that engages students and enhances teachers’ pedagogical skills. A former classroom teacher, instructional coach, professional development facilitator, and administrator, she is the Data Science Education Project Director at UCLA, Center X. Ms. Machado leads the team that designed and developed the Introduction to Data Science (IDS) curriculum, a high school data science course that authentically engages students in reasoning critically about and in working with data in all forms. Originally piloted at LAUSD in 2014, IDS will be offered in approximately 50 states across 11 states and Australia. Her goal is to bring 21st century data science teaching and learning to K-12 education.
