Carlos Aponte
Carlos is a lifelong Philadelphian who traces his culture to the Island of Puerto Rico Carlos’ background is in Secondary Education with a concentration in African American and American History. He is formerly an educator at One Bright Ray Community High School(OBRCHS). He has worked there for the past eight years and has brought many extra curricular activities to the school community. Carlos has partnered with Students Run Philly Style(SRPS) to bring the program to OBRCHS. He managed the program for five years and mentored over 30 students to participate in the Broad Street Run. After SRPS Carlos decided to create his own 501c3 non profit organization, We Love Philly, that teaches volunteerism, entrepreneurship, meditation, ownership, and content creation to youth left behind by mainstream institutions. After completion of the program students earn credits towards their high school diploma. Carlos also creates and produces, with his students, The We Love Philly Podcast. The podcast explores volunteerism throughout the city and features organizations that are making the city a better place to inhabit. Carlos is Executive Director of We Love Philly and is currently scaling his curriculum to be implemented at schools in the Philadelphia area. Carlos also sits on the board at The Penn Treaty Museum, which is located at 324 Richmond Street, in Philadelphia PA.
