Leander ISD

Dr. Bentz is a child-centered educator, committed to increasing opportunities and access to high quality educational experiences for all students, particularly historically underserved populations. Matt began a 10-year teaching career in Phoenix, Arizona at a school serving a community population who were 99% Latino, with 100% qualifying for free/reduced lunch. He became the assistant principal and earned a Master’s degree in Elementary Education with a bilingual emphasis. Matt earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership from ASU, and became the principal at a title one high school. Matt’s high school earned an “A” rating on Arizona’s state accountability system, one of only 4% of title one high schools in the state to achieve this designation. Matt served as assistant superintendent there before becoming Chief Academic Officer in Leander ISD, a 42,000 student school district where he and his colleagues are working to address equity, access, and opportunity gaps.
