Headliners in Education

John has been in journalism for 35+ years since graduating from Ithaca College as a Philosophy/Religion major. Since 1999, he has worked in the Boston Globe newsroom as a copy editor, reporter, and print and web layout designer -- the majority of the time working nights under deadline in the sports department. In 2007, he began volunteering in the Watertown (Mass.) schools, helping build and grow journalism programs in all five schools. In 2017, he earned his licensure and began as an English teacher at Watertown High. In 2020, he founded Headliners in Education, a 501c3 nonprofit focused on promoting the educational wonderfulness that having journalism in schools brings. Headliners has grown to include 1,400+ students and teachers in 35 states and five countries. John has been published in 100+ outlets and recognized in Best Sports Writing in America. In July 2021, he served as guest judge for the sports writing contest held by Write the World for its global teen writing community.
