Arts & Critical Race Theory
In this session, participants will explore the relationship of the arts to contextualizing critical race theory, and its application in and out of schools. When stories are shared where students are shamed for being one identity or another, that is not CRT. That is bad teaching. When students are taught one identity is inherently evil and one is inherently oppressed, that is also bad teaching. The arts can help illuminate the difference while also providing a familiar paradigm to examine content
