The Covid-19 pandemic solidified a responsibility teachers have increasingly held for students’ mental health. Grappling with intensified structural inequalities and their own anxieties about the threat of Covid, teachers have also managed emotional health in the classroom through tenacious care work. This panel considers how teachers have managed these interconnected challenges in the US and the UK, the impact of this additional emotional labour, and ways they could be better supported.
