Kimberly Woo
Kimberly Woo is an academic, geek, and dabbler in creative pursuits - not always in that order. Currently the Assistant Director of Institutional Research at Teachers College, Columbia University, Kimberly is an educational researcher who has built a career in casting an evaluative and analytic eye to teaching practice. She holds a PhD in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and a MA in Childhood Education, and has presented regularly at academic conferences, including the annual meeting of the American Education Research Association (AERA). She is also an active participant in multiple fandoms, where she engages in fan art, fanfiction, and cosplay. While she has spent much of her life juggling these "secret identities", she has found combining them to be an enriching reflective exercise that highlights ways in which aspects of participatory fan culture can enhance and extend students' learning and thinking, especially about issues of diversity.
