Inspired by the needs of her children, Dr. Scanlon envisioned a speech technology to redefine how children acquire literacy. With 20+ years experience in speech technology and machine learning, Patricia used her personal savings to start SoapBox Labs and became the first spin-in entrepreneur at Trinity College Dublin. Her technical approach to addressing the challenge of speech technology for children has been independently validated by the three top academic authorities in the world on speech recognition. She has successfully raised over €5.5 M funding in government and private investments helping her bolster research and product development. Note Patricia scored a record in Ireland for highest seed round raised in ICT for female founder/CEO. This is a significant achievement as it is notoriously hard to raise funding as a female entrepreneur and indeed as a sole founder. In December 2018, Forbes named Patricia as one of the top 50 women in tech globally.
