As the Commissioner representing Labor, Julian Alvarez III represents the interests of 14 million working Texans with respect to TWC services. Honored for his work on behalf of early childhood education he received an award from the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children. Recently, he received the CTE Champion Award from the Career & Technical Association of Texas honoring leaders who support and champion CTE programs as a vital part of developing a prepared, adaptable and competitive workforce. As a Workforce Commissioner, he has worked to align education with the needs of industry. Prior to his appointment as TWC Commissioner, he worked in economic development, served as Texas Regional Director for U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson advising on legislative and policy issues, served as a state trooper for Texas Department of Public Safety and as Information Director for Texas State Technical College in Harlingen
