Calming Anxiety: How to Talk Politics with Kids

Kids ask important questions about national issues. Yet adults are struggling to respond in a developmentally appropriate and non-partisan way. A recent survey indicated that student behavior grew worse in schools that avoided approaches to conversations on national policy issues. Teachers felt the school culture was more civil and caring when polarization and students' fears were addressed. This session will discuss tools and strategies to develop emotional leadership, guide civil dialogue around big topics, and content that can assist students as they discuss, deliberate, and engage in civil discourse about their important questions.
