Schools Teach Civics, but Do They Model It?

Civics education has been on the decline for decades. Post-2016, there has been a resurgence in youth activism and interest in ramping up civics education in the United States. But one of the core challenges for U.S. schools is that the very institution tasked with conveying civic values -- schools -- are also permitted to curtail them for students (by searching lockers, censoring various forms of speech). In this provocative session, we explore on the ground how this plays out.
