What If School Didn't Feel Like School?

Our school works well for many students. But not all of them. To engage the outliers, we opened the doors on Saturdays for whoever wanted to come. We made one simple promise: it won't feel like 'school' on Saturday. Instead, they spent the day with local college students for a bit of tutoring and a lot of fun. What happened? Students who used to hate school increased their attendance rates, social-emotional skills, and even standardized test scores.
