Micaela Blei, PhD, is a storyteller, former elementary school teacher and former Director of Education and Community Programs at The Moth.
Micaela co-founded The Moth High School StorySLAM Program and The Moth Teacher Stories Program and co-wrote The Moth’s K-12 curriculum resources. She has taught storytelling workshops and performance programs in schools across New York City as well as for Google, Humanity in Action, DreamYard Project, Barnard College, Lincoln Center Education, and others. Micaela earned her PhD in Educational Theatre at NYU, with a research focus on storytelling and identity in education spaces.
As a storyteller, Micaela is a two-time Moth GrandSLAM champion, and Moth MainStage storyteller. Her stories can be heard on The Moth Radio Hour and the acclaimed podcast Family Ghosts. Her solo storytelling show, The Secret Life of Your Third Grade Teacher, was a sold-out FringeFAVE at the 2016 NYC International Fringe Festival in August 2016, and is returning to stages nationwide in 2019.
