Ahmed Abdulmajeed

Intl Advisory Council Member
Battery Dance

Ahmed, a medical doctor from Iraq, arrived in the US as a refugee. He received a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration and is working with a global language services company, MasterWord Services, to help hospitals and healthcare systems implement language services that provide meaningful access to populations with limited English proficiency. Ahmed began learning social dancing in 2011 and adopted Argentinean Tango as his main form of self-expression and connecting with people through dance. He hosts a biannual tango fundraiser aimed at supporting local Houston refugee-assisting organizations. Ahmed serves as a board member for PAIR, an organization that provide after-school mentorship to refugee youth. He is also an advisory board member for Ideas Beyond Borders, an organization that aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge between the different parts of the world. Ahmed joined Battery Dance as an international advisory council member and volunteer in 2016 after becoming aware of its Dancing to Connect program. He was attracted by the way Battery Dance aims to support refugee, immigrant, and vulnerable communities with means for connecting, building self-expression and confidence, and acquiring needed professional skills and recognition. Ahmed is working with Battery Dance to coordinate workshops and performances that involve dancers from his home country of Iraq.
