ichael Vea is a second-year doctoral student in education leadership at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. After earning his undergraduate degree in education and social policy from Northwestern University in 2001, Michael joined Teach For America as a 5th grade teacher at Public School 128 in New York City’s Washington Heights community while pursuing his masters degree in education at Pace University. In the summer of 2005, he was part of an entrepreneurial team that launched KIPP Infinity Middle School in Harlem where he taught 5th Grade Nonfiction Studies, 7th Grade American History, and Journalism. After 14 years in the classroom, Michael served as a national education consultant at LitLife PD, working to transform literacy teaching and learning in communities across the US. The son of Filipino immigrants, Michael is also committed to expanding educational opportunities for all children in the Philippines through his work with Teach for the Philippines.
