Puerto Rican & Latinx school counselor at a dual-language school in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with an immense passion for issues of race, immigration, gender and sexual justice- all of them a strong influence in her school counseling program. In 2013, founded Mariposas, a community of 40 powerful Latina youth and their families that comes together weekly to explores issues of intersectionality, voice, social emotional health and civic ownership. Barbie is on the Teaching Tolerance Advisory Board, a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center.
