Asst Professor of Biology
Oakton Community College

Stephanie Levi Blumer is an Assistant Professor in the Biology Department at Oakton Community College. She earned her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology at the University of Chicago. As a first-generation, low-income student, Dr. Levi Blumer had no idea how to pursue college (let alone a Ph.D.), and has dedicated her career to making science and education accessible and enjoyable for all while empowering students to reach their goals. Dr. Levi Blumer’s professional interests include innovative active learning and critical thinking approaches in the biology classroom, civic engagement and service learning in higher education, holistic student support, and matters relating to inclusion, accessibility, recruitment and retention of underrepresented students in STEM fields. Teaching with digital courseware for the past two years has led Dr. Levi Blumer to examine how digital learning tools can improve outcomes in the introductory Biology curriculum.
