Joan E. Hughes (Ph.D., Educational Psychology, Michigan State University; B.A., English, Pomona College) is an Associate Professor of Learning Technologies at The University of Texas at Austin. Her research and teaching examines technology integration in teacher preparation programs and K-12 schools. She studies how teachers and K-12 students use technologies in-and-outside the classroom for content learning and how school leaders support classroom technology integration. She has published 2 books, over 40 articles, and presented 100+ times at local, national, and international conferences. Recent publications tell the story of technology leadership in a 1:1 iPad innovation and social networking trends among college students learning to become teachers. Her educational technology career began as an elementary and middle school computer teacher in Silicon Valley in the early 1990s.
