Shelly Buchanan
Shelly earned her BA from University of California, Berkeley, her Master's of Science in Educational Media from Portland State University and her Ph.D. from the Queensland University of Technology.
Shelly started her teaching career as a high school English teacher. She subsequently taught middle school English and Fifth Grade. Shelly moved into school librarianship, teaching at the primary and middle school level, and instructional coaching. During this time she began writing educational materials for teachers and non-fiction texts for younger readers. Curious to understand student personal learning she engaged in Ph.D. studies. After earning her Ph.D. in information technology, with a research focus on student inquiry learning, she took a full time teaching position at the School of Information at San Jose State University.
