Laura Lukens
Laura Lukens has worked as an educator of immigrant and refugee children for three decades, first as a bilingual inner-city teacher in Los Angeles, then as an elementary ESL teacher in Kansas and Missouri. Laura has worked in her current position as ELL Coordinator for North Kansas City Schools since 2006. She holds Master’s degrees in International Business and Bilingual Education.
Laura is also a teacher educator, consultant, and author. She has delivered professional development to teachers in school districts and educational agencies across North America. In her work as an English Language Specialist for the US Department of State, she trained teachers for the Bahrain Ministry of Education. Laura also wrote and managed a federal grant for teacher professional development in NKCS, Project EXCELL. The GO TO Strategies, co-authored by Laura, are an outgrowth of this work.
Laura is actively involved in TESOL International, serving as Chair of the Elementary Education Interest Section from 2010-2011.
