ENCORE: Using Tattoos to Teach the Essay Writing Process

Participants will practice essay writing skills through the analogy of creating tattoos. They'll use critical analysis via live observation, modern research skills via smartphone, and first person interviews to draft, revise, and finalize a tattoo on me. They'll progress from low stakes (pen and paper) to medium stakes (dry erase markers and my arms) to high stakes (permanent markers and my arms). The larger takeaway for educators is how to craft engaging lessons for uninvested students.
