Monica Valadez

Monica’s responsibilities include serving as the lead parent and community liaison, communicating needs and resources to families and other stakeholders, coordinating community outreach events, working with students and families who find themselves in at-risk situations, and assisting with district attendance reports as the district truancy officer, a position that was vacated due to a retirement in December 2015. This position is critical to the sustained communications and engagement of parents and community in all District matters. The attendance position has been expanded to include the community outreach responsibilities. Valadez has been with the district for 2.5 years, and in education for 12 years. She has served as assistant principal at De Zavala Elementary since August 2013, after earning her doctorate from Texas State University in 2012.
