Janeen Comenote
Janeen Comenote founded the National Urban Indian Family Coalition (NUIFC) in 2003 to encourage collaboration between urban Indian centers. Today the NUIFC has grown to respresent 25 urban Indian centers in 20 cities, several Native American origanizations and more than 1 million Native Americans living away from their traditional land base. Janeen has served as a human rights commissioner for the City of Seattle, worked on several documentary films and written a screenplay. She has sat on the board of directors of the Washington State Children’s Alliance, Washington State Budget and Policy Center, Washington Indian Civil Rights Commission and the Chief Seattle Club. She currently sits on the board of The Praxis Project.
