Keith Kaufelt
As the social media specialist for VCU Health, Keith Kaufelt oversees social media strategy for the academic medical center. His efforts have resulted in improved content quality and the introduction of growing platforms for the health system, including Facebook Live. Keith earned an undergraduate degree in mass communications with a concentration in creative advertising at Virginia Commonwealth University. He brings a wealth of experience to VCU Health, having worked previously with the Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia and Chil Creative in Atlanta. Soon after Facebook launched Facebook Live in April 2015, Anne Dreyfuss (co-presenter) and Keith began incorporating the live streaming platform into their public relations and marketing strategy. They developed Facebook-specific social media programming and leveraged the programs to form community partnerships and cross-campus collaborations. The content streams they developed through Facebook Live include interviews that elevate VCU and VCU Health faculty and physicians as experts on timely news topics, live event coverage, behind-the-scenes tours of new facilities, cooking demonstrations and more. As early-adopters of the platform, Anne and Keith presented on their utilization of Facebook Live to jointly achieve their academic medical center's public relations and marketing goals at two national public relations conferences in 2017. In May, they presented at a healthcare communications conference hosted at Johns Hopkins University. In October, they presented at the Microsoft headquarters. The pair was also recognized for their work with the Award of Excellence in Webcasts at the 2017 Virginia Public Relations Award Ceremony.
