Brian Giebink

Brian is an industry expert in the field of mental health design. Throughout his career, Brian has surrounded himself by other experts in the field of mental health to better understand current trends and create innovative solutions to improve the patient experience in mental health environments. Brian has served as the mental health expert on numerous behavioral and mental health projects across the US, Canada, and Middle East holding roles in planning, design, and consulting. Brian is now bringing this expertise into learning environments, designing educational spaces for those with development delays, learning disabilities and special needs.

At HDR, Brian leads the Mental Healthcare and Education Design Center of Excellence, introducing current trends and design strategies to a broader HDR team and works with smaller focus groups within HDR to discuss and develop strategies to improve both the mental healthcare environment for patients and staff and learning environments for children with special needs. Brian is constantly expanding his knowledge and experience base in the field. Working with his team to delve into the latest research on the subject and applying best practices to his design. He has presented on the topic of designing empathetic learning spaces most recently at The Learner Conference and was published in Essentials magazine.
