Yanira Oliveras
Dr. Yanira Oliveras-Ortiz began her teaching career in 1994 as a kindergarten teacher in a private school in Puerto Rico. In 1997, she moved to Texas where she became a bilingual elementary teacher. In 2001, she began her administrative career as the district elementary math curriculum coordinator, and soon after moved to campus leadership as an assistant principal. Dr. Oliveras became an elementary school principal in 2007, a position which she held until 2014. After 20 years in K-12 education, Dr. Oliveras became an assistant professor of Educational Leadership at The University of Texas at Tyler. In her 3 years at UT Tyler, she has served as the principal certification program coordinator, co-led the development of the College of Education Psychology's Vision 2025, and serves as the President of UT Tyler Innovation Academy School Board. Dr. Oliveras is the founder and co-editor of the first UT Tyler peer-reviewed online journal, Diversity, Social Justice and the Educational Leader.
