Chris Caruso has spent his career at the intersection of schools and communities working to improve educational outcomes and create opportunities for young people in neighborhoods with the greatest needs. He is the founding Executive Director of the Office of Community Schools at the NYC Department of Education (DOE) where he has built a city-wide system of 220 community schools that integrate social services with high quality instruction; enabling schools better serve the needs of 110,000 students and families. Prior to joining the DOE, Chris was the SVP at TASC helping schools expand the day with 35% more time. Earlier in his career, Caruso was founding Asst. Commissioner for Out-of-School Time Programs at the NYC Dept of Youth & Community Development and was a Program Director at one of the Children’s Aid Society’s community schools. Chris has degrees from Providence College and Columbia University and is an alumnus of the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Children & Family Fellowship.
