Katie Casstevens
A native of San Antonio, Katie first arrived to Austin in 2006, where she studied Psychology and Spanish at The University of Texas. Eager for adventure after graduation, Katie moved to Santiago, Chile to teach English, and soon started creating technology-guided learning experiences with a small startup. By 2012, Katie was ready to pursue her professional passion of working with youth and communities. Katie returned to Austin to pursue a dual-masters degree at UT's School of Social Work and LBJ School of Public Affairs. She also started working with the nonprofit STARRY to support runaway and homeless youth in crisis situations. During her graduate studies, Katie was honored with two fellowships that allowed her to provide capacity-building support to community development projects in both Nicaragua and Brazil.
In 2016, Katie started working with Austin ISD to support the growth of the community schools model in the district and throughout the region. In her free time, Katie enjoys being outdoors, international travel, salsa dancing and two-stepping, and hanging out with her large & local family, including 4 sisters, 4 nephews and 1 niece.
