I've Got Rhythm: Poetry in Autism Education
“I’ve Got Rhythm” introduces a sensory-based practice for teaching the fundamentals of poetry in special education settings. Students find their rhythm through movement activities that model poetic meter, then work on collaborative poems. This collaborative writing process promotes both academic and social-emotional skills. Attendees of “I’ve Got Rhythm” will clap their hands and stomp their feet, learning firsthand how to teach the building blocks of poetry with a sensorimotor curriculum.
