Quick Bio

Emily Porter is an Education Programs Specialist with the Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ), specializing in early education, homeschool, and NaturePlay programming. She also leads FONZ Education’s participation in the pan-Smithsonian “Word Expeditions” project, an early learning community program funded by PNC’s Grow Up Great initiative. Prior to beginning her work at FONZ, she worked at the U.S. Botanic Garden, the National Park Service, and the U.S. Department of Education. She holds an BA in English from Harvard University, an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Washington, and an MAT in Museum Education from the George Washington University. Her favorite part of her work at FONZ is introducing young learners to unfamiliar animals through hands-on explorations of natural elements.
