Scott Sargrad is the Managing Director of the K-12 Education Policy team at American Progress.
Prior to joining American Progress, Sargrad served as the deputy assistant secretary for policy and strategic initiatives in the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education, where he had the primary responsibility for key K-12 education programs and initiatives, including the Title I program, Elementary and Secondary Education Act flexibility, and School Improvement Grants. Previously, Sargrad taught mathematics, coached cross country and track and field, and was a special-education instructional assistant. He also worked on disability policy and taught English in Hanoi, Vietnam. Sargrad received his undergraduate degree in mathematics with a minor in philosophy from Haverford College and a master’s degree in education policy and management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
