New York City Department of Education - Sr Dir Computer Science Programs
Alana Aaron is currently the Senior Director of Computer Science Programs for New York City's Department of Education. She joined the NYC DOE CS4ALL team in January 2016 to design and execute the Software Engineering Program Jr. (SEP Jr.), the NYC DOE’s first initiative to reach elementary students under the Mayor’s Computer Science for All initiative. A graduate of the University of Michigan and a recipient of a New York City Teaching Fellowship, she previously taught second through fifth grades in the NYC public schools for over 10 years. Most recently, Alana taught in Washington Heights where she taught computer science for three years to her fifth grade students. Alana has also worked as a Code.org Facilitator, presenting Computer Science Fundamentals professional development workshops for hundreds of teachers around the region. She has seen firsthand the value of computer science education and is committed to ensuring all elementary students have access to computer science education.
