Quick Bio

Dr. Manuel holds a B.S. degree in social studies from Cal State University, Los Angeles, an M.S. degree in reading from Pepperdine University, and a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Management from Alliant University. Prior to her position as Director of the SIDE Unit, Dr. Manuel served as Interim Local District 3 Superintendent, guiding more than 90 elementary, middle, senior high schools and early educational centers, serving more than 60,000 students. Dr. Manuel has held various positions in LAUSD. During five years as a principal at 112th Street Elementary School, she raised standardized test scores, built collaborative school teams, and served as a role model for students and teachers. She encouraged the building of relationships with community organizations and local businesses to provide additional services and resources to students, their families, and school personnel. She is a proud product of LAUSD, having attended LAUSD schools from kindergarten through high school.
