Summary

One third of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer this year; 25% of cancer survivors have a school-aged child. This session puts participants in a live simulation to experience what it feels like to be diagnosed to develop empathy and a fuller understanding of cancer and how it affects kids and families. We’ll meet childhood cancer survivor and national advocate Mike Thompson, who’ll share his story. We'll share tools and resources from LIVESTRONG at School, a program of LIVESTRONG Foundation that offers K-12 lesson plans to educate students about effects of cancer and empower them to take action. The session will prepare educators to discuss tough cancer topics with authenticity.
