Summary

What happens when you design a high school determined to prepare students for college, AND THEN you ensure that every student you recruit has a long history of school failure and is on the cusp of aging out of the system without a diploma? In 2011, we created Bronx Arena HS (BAHS). Five years later, 100% of our grads possess the coveted NYS Regents’ Diploma, 65% of our grads enroll in college, and 82% have successfully persisted beyond Freshman year. In this session: Critically analyze BAHS’ unique design features. Apply BAHS’ principles about the development of young people who have been marginalized by the system to the design of a draft prototype for an aspect of your own school.
