Summary

Two organizations leverage digital media, activism and code to teach teen girls computer programming. Girl Scouts of Greater New York and Vidcode have teamed up to create an after school program for 7th graders called ‘Breaking the Code’ which combines leadership, coding and filmmaking into a powerful STEAM curriculum. The result has been video campaigns for Black Lives Matter, the wage gap and diversity in STEM generated by teens themselves. Adding interaction and code allows teens to make their videos more convincing in conjunction with preparing them for the future workplace.
