Summary

#UDLmakers

Makerspaces are a promising means to create new avenues of student engagement and learning. But is the maker experience accessible for everyone? The race to incorporate making into education may be overlooking students with diverse learning needs. When introducing makerspaces into schools, it is important to consider the challenges of supporting learners from marginalized populations. Our workshop will examine the components of makerspaces; use journey mapping to understand youth experiences in making; and engage in design thinking motivated by the principles of UDL. We'll uncover insights into effective pedagogy in maker education and generate strategies to support all learners.
