Summary

The use of predictive analytics, or "big data," is on the rise in higher education. This can be a great thing for student success efforts. But there can be unintended consequences, especially for low-income students or students of color, if institutions don't think carefully about the ethical implications of their analyses. The Kresge Foundation has partnered with New America to outline the ethical considerations of using data analytics and will share best practices, as well as converse with leaders from two institutions using data analytics in innovative ways to support underrepresented students -- Georgia State University in Atlanta and Morgan State University in Baltimore.
