Summary

The crisis in Syria has created an academic emergency, with the break-down of higher education within the country and major obstacles for students outside of Syria. Using the example of the Syria crisis, the panel will discuss the role of U.S. higher education institutions in responding to higher education in emergencies. The panel will explore the pros and cons of scholarship programs for displaced students, institutional challenges when working with displaced students and best practices on how to overcome these obstacles. The panel will provide a variety of perspectives on this crucial topic, including speakers from the non-profit and university sector as well as a Syrian student.
