Maker-based education has emerged as a new way of engaging learners across age groups and subjects. We propose to facilitate a meet up of K-12 teachers, school administrators, and others who are interested in discussing the current state of maker-based education. We will extend current conversations focused on designing makerspaces for schools by presenting new models for maker-based pedagogical philosophies, approaches, and frameworks. Our hope is to spark a conversation about how pedagogical best practices for maker-based education help to create meaningful and impactful learning experiences for students with the goal of moving maker-based education beyond a fad and into the mainstream.
