Summary

There is a growing wealth of research that shows people primarily think and learn through experiences they have had. This is changing the way educators and childcare professionals view their roles. As one new teacher said: “I was looking at all these tools and thinking how can I get good at using them in order to teach? But then I realized that what I needed to do was give them to the children and let them learn by using them.” This is 21st century learning and providing children with opportunities to experiment with their surroundings as a form of problem solving or systematic creativity, which is the ability to think creatively and reason systematically. With exposure to dynamic and active learning experiences, students are inspired to become the next generation of makers, creating active, collaborative and inventive solutions-seekers. Join Dale Dougherty, founding editor and publisher of MAKE magazine and the co-creator of Maker Faire, LEGO Education North America President Stephan Turnipseed and Kathy Holberg, LEGO Ed teacher to take part in a hands-on LEGO BuildToExpress experience.
