Design for Learning: How Environment Influences Experience

When we think about school, our primary focus is often on teaching practices and curriculum. But the space children spend their days in requires our attention, too. It has a profound impact on student’s motivation, self-concept, ability to focus, sense of belonging, emotions, and learning. Inspired by Reggio Emilia, Montessori, museum-design, and more, we'll explore research behind design and its influence in a classroom, and investigate the environment as a "hidden curriculum". Participants will apply new thinking using hands-on activities including opportunity to design their own spaces.
