Searching the words "trauma" and "essay" on Twitter yields thousands of posts by racially minoritized students discussing the pressure to write a college essay that showcases their pain. What’s missing from this discussion is the voice of a student, former admissions officer, and admissions expert who’s lived and studied it! This session will discuss what students stand to lose or gain through sharing trauma in college essays and the role universities and orgs play in soliciting these stories.
