Reading Reimagined: Why Is THIS Not Talked About?
Many educators know that only one-third of American children read at grade level and results are far worse for students of color and those experiencing poverty. There is a lesser known truth: struggling readers often peak in grade four, after which most school systems see declining results. Why is this? We will explore what these results tell us, discuss why the critical intersection of decoding and reading comprehension is critical to this challenge, and offer solutions for change.
